Henry Brothers – Altogether Stronger

Small beginnings

The story of Henry Brothers first began in 1976 when Jim Henry set up a construction business focusing on small-scale construction projects in Northern Ireland. Today, Henry Brothers is recognised as a leading construction company with offices in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, a turnover approaching £150m and more than 250 direct employees. The Henry Group, meanwhile, comprises a number of manufacturing & construction sector companies, ranging from external construction through to interiors fit-out.

Nottingham growth

In 2015, the Midlands office of Henry Brothers was established in Nottingham. The Midlands team delivers projects up to £30m in value, working in partnership with clients across a range of sectors including education, defence, blue-light, custodial and commercial, along with healthcare - which is rapidly becoming our largest sector. The team offers a personable, lean and flexible approach, setting us apart from our competitors.

We look for opportunities where we can add value and offer something different to our clients, this approach has led to us developing a specialism in complex schemes such as high security Ministry of Defence and bluelight projects, heavily serviced laboratory developments and exemplar sustainable schemes. We are proud that many of our projects are secured through repeat business.

Due to a reputation for high quality and complete customer satisfaction, the Midlands business has expanded across the country and in September 2022, a Northern office was opened in Central Manchester, with the business later being renamed as Henry Brothers Construction Ltd.

Henry Brothers has been appointed to a range of well-established national and regional public sector frameworks including Crown Commercial Service, Ministry of Justice, Pagabo, Procure 23, Department for Education, North West Construction Hub and Rise, opening up further opportunities.

Local Projects

We take enormous pride in our work because when we take on a project, we see it as an opportunity to deliver something inspiring that will benefit our local communities and the environment, long into the future. Here, are just a handful of current and recently completed projects:

Broad Marsh Community Diagnostics Centre

State-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre located in the Broad Marsh regeneration development in Nottingham city centre. CDCs are designed to be a ‘one-stop shop’, supporting Nottingham's clinicians and patients by providing direct access to diagnostics services such as MRI, CT, x-ray, ultrasound, echocardiography, ECG, and lung function testing in a facility nearer to home rather than in an acute hospital setting. This allows for more rapid diagnosis of conditions such as cancer, which in turn will help patients access the life-saving treatments they need more quickly, helping to reduce waiting times, all in a community setting. Once at full capacity, the CDC will provide up to 140,000 appointments every year.

Twycross Zoo Global Conservation Centre

This new facility will make a game-changing contribution to the fight against global extinction for endangered wildlife. Attracting an £18million investment from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund - marking the biggest single Government grant ever given to a UK zoo – the Global Conservation Centre will be dedicated to advancing global conservation solutions.

It will not only act as a hub for the zoo’s expanding global conservation work, cutting-edge scientific research, and education programmes, but also, a community space to inspire, train and facilitate the next generation of conservation leaders under one roof.

Key features of the Global Conservation Centre include:

  • A two-storey building featuring a 200-seat lecture theatre overlooking a new world-class orangutan habitat, plus research and teaching spaces in three indoor classrooms with adjacent wildlife gardens, and a cutting-edge science lab for both current and future conservation leaders to learn and work.
  • A two-storey residential facility featuring accommodation for visiting experts and students, with 24 bedrooms to welcome professionals and students from around the world.
  • A new world-class orangutan habitat and Indonesian themed area of the zoo.

Canopy, Leicester

Canopy, Leicester is a landmark regeneration project that has transformed the former Pilot House on King Street from a long-vacant, dilapidated cluster of heritage buildings into a vibrant creative industries hub in the heart of the city. Delivered for Leicester City Council, the £10.6m scheme has sensitively restored and repurposed five architecturally significant buildings dating from around 1900, creating 60,000 sq ft of high-quality managed workspace tailored to the needs of Leicester’s growing creative, digital and design-led sectors. The impact has been immediate and measurable. Completed in June 2025, Canopy launched with 38% of its space let, the strongest opening position in Leicester City Council’s managed workspace portfolio in more than 20 years. By June 2026, 55% of the accommodation was let, ahead of target, providing space for 25 businesses and supporting around 300–400 people.

Leicester Endoscopy

The £11.1m Endoscopy Unit at Leicester General Hospital delivered a state-of-the-art facility on programme and within budget despite being constructed on a live acute hospital site. The building features six procedure rooms, 20 private endoscopy pods for patients before and after their procedures, each with ensuite, along with discharge lounges, offices, staff areas and stores. The project increased endoscopy capacity by over 50%, creating capacity for an additional 9,000 patients annually and supporting earlier diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease and cancer.

Investing in our communities

At Henry Brothers, we are dedicated to having a positive impact on the communities and places in which we operate. Our ongoing commitment to responsible business is evident in our sponsorship of Switch Up in Nottingham. Founded by Marcellus Baz, Switch Up uses tried and tested mentoring techniques as well as physical training to provide life-changing support to vulnerable young people from Nottingham. Our three-year partnership with the charity will provide much-needed funding to continue their positive employability programme as well as offering invaluable work placement opportunities to deliver long-term impact for the city’s disadvantaged young people. As a result of our relationship with Switch Up we recently welcomed one of their young people on a three-month trial at our Twycross Zoo project, he impressed us so much that he has now been taken on as a permanent employee.
