In the video below, our deputy managing director in the Midlands – Nick Gibb, welcomes you to our spotlight page, and shares further detail on our business. Please take a moment to watch this short clip as an introduction to our page.
Sustainability and social value is at the heart of our business. Since 1852 we have been passionate about leaving the right sort of social, environmental and economic legacy. Here Sophie explains our motives and why we have to act now.
In September 2020, we launched our new sustainability strategy, ‘Now or Never’, with a series of ambitious targets to achieve by 2030. The strategy and ambitions are themed to deliver Brilliant Buildings, to Build Lives and enable a Better Planet. Here our CEO, Rick Willmott, introduces the strategy.
A central part of our strategy to deliver Brilliant Buildings is underpinned by our Energy SynergyTM process. Read more about this in our blog from Francesca Wilkinson in our sustainability team.
We are all about supporting the people and businesses in our communities to thrive. Some examples of these are shared below:
The COVID-19 pandemic presented the construction industry with challenges that the whole market was unprepared for. Across the globe, many construction projects were put on hold or scrapped altogether, leaving customers and communities stranded with incomplete projects and planning departments in disarray.
It became clear to me that the only way to survive throughout the crisis was to be adaptable and innovative, while also ensuring we were still providing customers with that first-class service that they expect from us.
Read this blog here from Nick Gibb, who shares his views on why he thinks being a consultative contractor is the future of modern construction.
We also have a sister company – Willmott Dixon Interiors – and work together through joint ventures on construction and fit-out projects, as well as heritage renovations.
Covid-19 created unprecedented challenges for construction; however, despite this, our people and supply chain partners innovated, problem solved and utilised technology to keep our sites open. Across the Midlands, our projects remained open, creating vital school places, building essential housing and supporting local economies and regeneration schemes.
Find out more in this video where we share our story of the pandemic and how we helped our customers ensure their projects kept going.
We believe that a digital approach is fundamental to both our business and industry, shaping the way we create the buildings of the future in an ever-changing world. At one of our recent Midlands projects – the Teaching and Learning Building, we encountered a unique design – a combination of one structure inside another. We overcame the challenges this presented through using digital technology. Find out more about how that worked in our short clip here.
Our new business – Collida – launches in 2021! A Willmott Dixon company, it is going to lead a technology-based revolution in how the UK construction industry designs, procures, delivers and maintains community buildings of superior quality, sustainability and liveability.
Look out for it – coming soon!
Willmott Dixon is a privately-owned construction company, and our Chief Executive, Rick Willmott, is the fifth generation to lead our business. We’re pleased to be ProCon Patrons and look forward to continuing to work closely with customers in Nottinghamshire, developing places that give businesses, communities and people opportunities to grow, thrive and be inspired.
As a major contractor, Willmott Dixon works on large projects across a variety of sectors including residential, science and technology, commercial, higher and further education, leisure, blue light, schools, healthcare, and public sector national frameworks.
Although Willmott Dixon is a national business, their local approach gives customers close attention and relationships with the whole team and the reassurance that their project is important, instead of being one of many in a large national structure. This is also demonstrated in Willmott Dixon’s ‘local pound’ approach of working with local companies, where possible, with up to 60 per cent of a project’s spending distributed within 35 miles.
