It’s Now or Never. Find out how Willmott Dixon is ensuring that by 2030 its customers’ new builds and refurbishment projects will be net zero carbon…

A welcome from our Deputy Managing Director – Nick Gibb

In the video below, our deputy managing director in the Midlands – Nick Gibb, welcomes you to our spotlight page, and shares further detail on our business. Please take a moment to watch this short clip as an introduction to our page.

What does this mean for our customers and partners?

We’re a contractor that’s set to be carbon net zero by 2030 – as such we have the expertise through our in-house sustainability consultants to support our customers on this journey too

Sustainability and social value are at the heart of our business. Since 1852 we have been passionate about leaving the right sort of social, environmental and economic legacy.

In 2020, we launched our ‘Now or Never’ 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy, with a series of ambitious targets. The strategy and ambitions are themed to deliver Brilliant Buildings, to Build Lives and enable a Better Planet. Here our CEO, Rick Willmott, introduces the strategy.

We also know that making real change in the construction industry can only be achieved through collaboration. Here, our technical director, Ed Reynolds shares his thoughts on the power of industry collaboration in his blog. You can also watch a debate that we held to discuss collaboration in the plight for net zero, with a local authority, SCAPE, customers and consultants below:

A great example of where we’re working to deliver low-carbon buildings in the region includes the Bingham Arena and Enterprise Centre in Rushcliffe. You can find out more about this exciting project here or through the video below.

With a purpose beyond profit to Build Lives and create a Better Planet, we make a real difference to local people and communities

We are all about supporting the people and businesses in our communities to thrive. We do this through the Willmott Dixon Foundation; 2021 marked its 10th anniversary. Sarah Fraser, our Head of the Foundation, looks back over what has been achieved for local communities throughout this time in her latest blog here.

We have pledged to plant 10,000 trees a year over the next decade as part of our ambition to deliver environmental net gain. The novel approach will focus on delivering environmental and wellbeing benefits, rather than solely the carbon benefits of tree planting.

In the Midlands, we’re working with the Woodland Trust to plant over 2,800 trees. These trees will be planted throughout Nottingham alongside the banks of the River Trent to help alleviate flooding and adapt to climate change, in conjunction with Trent Rivers Trust. Read more here.

Our forward-thinking and innovative approach means we’re always challenging the status quo and looking for the best results for our customers

We believe that a digital approach is fundamental to both our business and industry, shaping the way we create the buildings of the future in an ever-changing world. Our Nottingham office is now home to our immersive Digital BIM Cave. The unique tool aids the design process, helps validate traditional two-dimensional drawings and adds value for customers across the UK. We love to welcome customers, designers and students in to look at the world of digital construction and understand more about how it can benefit construction schemes. If you’re interested in coming to experience it for yourselves please contact Jerry Major. The Cave was formally opened in October – take a look at the video below to hear from some of our partners who have already been along to see it.

As a consultative contractor, we are a trusted advisor to our customers and are always looking for new ways to add value

The COVID-19 pandemic presented the construction industry with challenges that the whole market was unprepared for. Across the globe, many construction projects were put on hold or scrapped altogether, leaving customers and communities stranded with incomplete projects and planning departments in disarray.

It became clear to me that the only way to survive throughout the crisis was to be adaptable and innovative, while also ensuring we were still providing customers with that first-class service that they expect from us.

Read this blog here from Nick Gibb, who shares his views on why he thinks being a consultative contractor is the future of modern construction.

We also have a sister company – Willmott Dixon Interiors – and work together through joint ventures on construction and fit-out projects, as well as heritage renovations.

Willmott Dixon

Willmott Dixon is a privately-owned construction and interior fit-out company, and our Chief Executive, Rick Willmott, is the fifth generation to lead our business. Sustainability and social value is at the heart of our business. Since 1852 we have been passionate about leaving the right sort of social, environmental and economic legacy. More recently, we launched our Now or Never 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy and have committed to all of our new projects being net-zero carbon in operation by 2030.

We’re pleased to be ProCon Patrons and look forward to continuing to work closely with customers in Nottinghamshire, developing places that give businesses, communities and people opportunities to grow, thrive and be inspired.

As a major contractor, we work on projects across a variety of sectors including residential, leisure, law and order, education, science and technology, commercial, and healthcare. Our projects in the local area include Nottinghamshire Custody Suite, Bingham Arena and Enterprise Centre, and the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre demolition.

Although our business is national, our local approach gives customers close attention , instead of being one of many in a large national structure. This is also demonstrated in our ‘local pound’ approach of working with local companies, where possible, with up to 60 per cent of a project’s spending distributed within 35 miles.
