Delivered in collaboration with external provider, CoolPlanet, Energy Synergy® is a Ministry of Defence approved system and, to enhance confidentiality, its associated software has achieved SOC2 Type II certification.
Launched in 2016 and developed over the past 10 years, Energy Synergy® eliminates the all-too-commonly encountered “performance gap”, which causes many buildings to use far more energy than predicted. Using the robust CIBSE TM54 methodology, our experienced specialists model expected operational energy and compare it with real in‑use data collected through advanced sensors and CoolPlanet’s live performance dashboards.
This transparent, data‑driven approach enables us to fine‑tune building systems, delivering proven results. Energy Synergy® consistently improves performance by an average of 15%, cutting customers’ energy bills and carbon emissions, whilst enhancing comfort and operational efficiency. Bingham Arena, completed in May 2022 for Rushcliffe Borough Council, represents substantial local authority investment in state-of-the-art leisure facilities. This 5,449m² development comprises a leisure centre, a community hall, and self-contained offices and features an innovative 25m Myrtha pool, utilising a steel frame construction instead of traditional concrete, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% whilst offering superior resistance to chemicals and extended lifespan.
The centre incorporates sustainable technologies including solar panels, air source heat pumps, and combined heat and power systems. Our Energy Synergy® service has demonstrated that the facility is 78% more carbon-efficient than other leisure centres it was measured against and 82% more energy efficient than comparable office developments. Post-completion monitoring at Bingham Arena identified optimisation opportunities delivering annual savings of 562 MWh energy, 206 tCO2e carbon emissions and £53,500 in operational costs with just a 2.2-year return on investment. These efficiencies support the council's carbon neutrality goals for 2030.
Our collaborative approach ensured alignment with customer objectives throughout, resulting in a post-completion Net Promoter Score of 100%.
Hollycroft Primary School, completed in September 2023, was Leicestershire County Council's first Net Zero school designed for both regulated and unregulated energy use. This 210-place, 1,305m² primary school achieved BREEAM Excellent and placed in the top 10% of new non-domestic buildings for environmental best practice.
The project was enabled through a Section 106 agreement with Bloor Homes as part of their neighbouring 850-home Normandy Way development. Hollycroft Primary School is a prime example of how early contractor involvement can benefit all stakeholders, as we collaborated with Leicestershire County Council from RIBA Stage 0. This allowed us to influence every decision based on operational and embodied carbon impact, which led to choosing a timber frame over steel and installing 381m² of photovoltaic panels that generate more energy than the building consumes annually.
The school is supported by our Energy Synergy® service, which features comprehensive energy monitoring equipment that benchmarks consumption against predicted use for two to three years post-handover. A live data screen in reception displays energy generation information, supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, whilst demonstrating environmental performance.
This project served as a template for future Net Zero schools in the region, including Wellington Place Primary School in Market Harborough.
Phoenix Square Reclad, completed in 2025, involved the comprehensive recladding of a residential building to address critical fire safety concerns. Following post-Grenfell regulations, we removed non-compliant ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) and EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) render systems, replacing them with fully compliant, non-combustible alternatives.
We provided exceptional value through expert management of complex challenges: demonstrating technical prowess during funding applications to secure vital government funding, implementing innovative scaffolding solutions to overcome restricted site access, maintaining effective resident liaisons throughout works on the continuously occupied building, and resolving additional non-compliant elements discovered during works.
Despite extraordinary difficulties including COVID-19, supply chain disruptions, inflation pressures, and previously unknowable issues that were exposed when the original cladding was removed, we completed the project three weeks ahead of schedule and within budget. The project achieved perfect customer satisfaction scores, with residents praising our professionalism and communication.
This successful recladding project demonstrates our expertise in fire safety remediation, technical problem-solving and resident-focused delivery – eliminating safety risks, whilst enabling residents to sell and remortgage their homes with confidence.
