Project Spotlight

Multi-million-pound transformation of NTU’s Postgraduate Centre

The state-of-the-art multi-million-pound postgraduate centre at Nottingham Trent University (NTU blends advanced educational technology with a focus on student wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

Designed around social interaction and collaboration the three-storey postgraduate centre features collaborative classrooms, research centres and social areas, emphasising sustainability and local wildlife support.

The facility was delivered by Pick Everard, providing architecture, interior design and landscaping services to an SKA Silver Standard.

“This project was a huge success and demonstrates how working collaboratively with local consultants and contractors you can achieve something very special. The project was delivered on time, within budget and to the right quality. The refurbishment and re-use of an existing building continues to demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, in a sustainable and responsible manner.” - Umesh Desai Director of Estates.

The Broad Marsh Regeneration

Significant milestones have already been delivered as part of this regeneration, including the Broad Marsh car park and bus station, Nottingham Central Library, and the creation of new, green, pedestrian-friendly public spaces.

Earlier this year, Collin Street reopened with a new urban play space, featuring bespoke swings, timber stepping blocks, a seesaw, balancing walkways and soft landscaping. The traffic-free route now links Lister Gate to the newly completed Green Heart – a major new public realm space on the former Broad Marsh shopping centre site.

Opening this summer, the Green Heart creates a wildlife-rich, accessible green space in the heart of the city. It complements other recent public realm works, including Sussex Street’s mini amphitheatre, skateable space and multi-use games area, adjacent to Nottingham College.

“Our involvement in the Broad Marsh regeneration has been a collaborative effort that is breathing new life into a central part of Nottingham, as well as reshaping the way we view our towns and cities. Combined with our work to deliver the new Central Library, we’re proud to be helping shape the area into a destination offering, with a vision that blends Nottingham’s iconic heritage with modern design. We’re looking forward to continuing our work and the momentum it brings in building a key part of East Midland’s economy.” – Oliver Hatton, Director of Project Management at Pick Everard

Sherwood Observatory

Pick Everard has supported the creation of a new £6.8 million planetarium and science discovery centre at Sherwood Observatory in Sutton-in-Ashfield. The project has seen the transformation of a disused Victorian underground reservoir into an immersive and accessible STEM education space, combining historic features with modern learning facilities.

The 59-seat planetarium with a 10-metre dome is fully equipped with immersive projection technology to support school visits, public shows and astronomy talks. The site also now features classrooms, exhibition space, meeting rooms and a new café, all designed to boost engagement with science across Nottinghamshire and beyond.

The refurbished reservoir retains its original brick arches and has been sensitively reimagined to blend heritage and sustainability, with energy-efficient systems and low-carbon materials used throughout. The project was delivered in collaboration with G F Tomlinson, SCAPE and Otherkind Architects, with Pick Everard providing project and cost management services.

Officially opened in spring 2025, the centre welcomed more than 5,000 visitors within its first six weeks and is set to attract around 20,000 annually, becoming a key part of the region’s science and education offering.
