It is not only important in terms of its contribution to the economy, it is also an enabler of wider economic growth and development, providing the homes, infrastructure and environment that allows the nation to function and prosper.

The growing demand for its services, brings with it issues such as supply and demand imbalances and a need to be more efficient, cost effective and for build times to be condensed.

This webinar will look at modern methods of construction, what that means and how leading experts are facing this challenge. Speakers include Andrew Prickett of Faithful + Gould, Martin Valentine of Positive Homes and Tim Carey of Willmott Dixon Sunesis.

More than a hundred property and construction professionals took part in ProCon Nottinghamshire’s first lockdown webinar.

The online event focused on modern methods of construction (MMC) and featured presentations by a project management consultancy, a housebuilder and a construction company.

Attendees from a wide range of disciplines tuned in to hear about the appetite for MMC, its applications, benefits and the obstacles to greater adoption.

The speakers were: Andrew Prickett of project management consultancy Faithful+Gould; Martin Valentine of energy efficient house builder Positive Homes; and Tim Carey of contractor Willmott Dixon Sunesis.

Andrew described the various strands of MMC, ranging from full 3D factory-built elements to smaller components and even on-site printing of PPE items such as facemasks.

Martin described his venture’s extensive use of MMC in housing projects, including a nine-unit modular development in Newark which was installed within a week.

Tim explored how MMC can be advantageous in many scenarios even if it is only part of a project, for instance using modular wiring systems.

Almost 30 questions were posted by attendees, on topics including: the customer’s experience; the outlook of lenders; overcoming preconceptions; selecting sites with MMC in mind; profit margins; and insurer attitudes.

The hour-long Zoom webinar, which can count towards CPD professional development, was introduced by ProCon Nottinghamshire chair Will Cursham from Gateley and moderated by Danielle Hall of Cartwright Communications.
