Birch View residential scheme completes

Works to create a new apartment complex located on Mill Hill Lane in Derby have now completed.

Designed and delivered by architecture and construction consultancy YMD Boon in partnership with Bailey Construction, the new Birch View residential scheme offers 14, one and two bed apartments with parking.

The site, which previously belonged to neighbouring St Joseph’s RC Church, required a major change of level and careful consideration was taken in order to maximise the space and provide suitable access to future residents.

Delivered on behalf of Optune Homes and Derby City Council, Birch View is located close to convenience shops, local amenities and is within easy walking distance of Derby city centre.

All room layouts comply with affordable housing criteria and were designed with the character of the surrounding properties in mind.

Shari Setayesh, director at YMD Boon, said: “Work has been underway at Birch View since February 2018, so it’s fantastic to see the finished building.

“The scheme has brought more affordable housing to the heart of a wonderful residential area and we’re very pleased to have been a part of this development. We hope future residents enjoy their new homes.”

Scott Bailey, managing director at Bailey Construction, said: “Bailey Construction were proud to have delivered a much-needed housing scheme on Mill Hill Lane.

“The scheme itself was challenging due to the nature of the site being confined and on a steep slope. We had engaged with YMD Boon to provide architectural assistance with delivering this scheme, and they proved to assist at every point.

“We are sure the scheme will be a great place to live for the new residents.”

Cllr Roy Webb, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing at Derby City Council, said: “This development evidences the benefit of partnership working to deliver quality, well designed homes on time and on budget. These apartments, now owned by Derby City Council and managed by Derby Homes, the council’s management agent, are adding to and improving our stock of affordable rented accommodation for people within the City.”

Mike Coulton, director at Optune Homes said: “We would like to thank all of the teams involved in creating this impressive block of apartments, with special thanks to Scott Bailey at Bailey Construction for his expertise and attention to detail in realising this scheme’s complex design.”

YMD Boon is on a number of housing frameworks including emh group and Reallies, and continues to provide architectural services for the affordable housing sector nationwide.
