Danaher & Walsh appointed main contractor for £5.4 m Kirk Hill junction redevelopment

Danaher & Walsh has been appointed main contractor for the Kirk Hill junction redevelopment in East Bridgford, one of five junctions forming part of the wider A614/A6097 major road scheme. The contract, delivered on behalf of Via, is valued at £5.367 million and is expected to complete before the end of 2027.

Work got underway with archaeology surveys on land off East Bridgford Road, ahead of the site compound being built and main construction starting in August.

Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, and Councillor Mick Barton, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, visited the site on 29 July 2026 to mark the launch of the scheme.

Claire Ward said: "I know how much the A614/A6097 scheme matters to the people and businesses who rely on this route every day, whether they are navigating busy junctions such as Ollerton roundabout or travelling along the wider corridor."

The redevelopment itself is substantial. Danaher & Walsh will add an extra lane in each direction on the A6097 to increase capacity and cut journey times, alongside widened right-turn lanes into Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road with new road markings for safer turning. The works also cover a new traffic signal system, upgraded street lighting, footpath renewal along Kirk Hill and improvements to the bridleway crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

Councillor Mick Barton said: "This is a huge milestone, not only for the A614/A6097 scheme, but for Nottinghamshire as a whole. Anyone who has driven through this junction will recognise that improvements are needed, and once works are complete, a new lane in each direction will help traffic to flow more smoothly."

Dan Danaher, Managing Director of Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering, said: "Danaher & Walsh are delighted to be commencing work on the Kirk Hill project. We've been collaborating with Via on an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) basis for the last 2 years, so seeing everyone's hard work come to fruition is a really exciting moment for us. We look forward to working on this project and keeping disruption to the local community as minimal as possible. As an SME based in the East Midlands ourselves, we'll also be looking at how we can add value to the community through our Engineered for Good social value commitment."
