Freeths advises on deal for 400-strong energy specialist

Law firm Freeths has revealed its role in the acquisition of a 400-strong energy specialist. 

Announced last month, the Freudenberg Flow Technologies Business Group has acquired Balmoral Comtec for an undisclosed sum.  

Based in Aberdeen Balmoral Comtec is a prominent supplier of engineered buoyancy, cable protection, and thermal insulation product services serving the offshore oil and gas and wind industries.  

Leading the Freeths Corporate team was corporate partner Martin Smith from the East Midlands and corporate managing associate Ewen Lowrie of the Glasgow office. They were supported by corporate managing associate Grace Hill and a range of the firm's specialist practice teams.

In particular, the transaction required the expertise of the firm's Competition team (partner and head of competition Andrew Maxwell, managing associate Emma Lythgoe and associate Isabella Coolican), and real estate support from partner Nick Taylor and managing associate Barry Richards for Scottish and English aspects respectively.

Balmoral Comtec employs 400 people at three locations in the UK. The company has a global footprint with customer projects in both the oil & gas and renewable energy markets in Europe, South America, and Asia.
