New homes move closer in Bingham with completion of first phase sale

The Crown Estate has completed the sale of land north of Bingham to Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The agreement on phase one brings much-needed new homes in the Nottinghamshire town closer and means the housebuilder can now start on-site.

The 225-acre site, which has outline planning permission for 1,050 homes, forms part of a substantial extension to the north of Bingham.

The Bingham North masterplan sets out plans for a new community to the north of the town, with space for new local shops, a primary school, a community centre, and public space including a park and lake.

The masterplan was adopted by Rushcliffe Borough Council in 2013 and details out how to meet local housing and infrastructure needs over the next 10 years. The new homes will be a short walk from the town centre, connected by a network of footpaths.

The town benefits from excellent transport links, sitting on the intersection of the A46, which leads to Lincoln, and the A52 to Nottingham, nine miles to the west.

Steve Melligan, strategic land manager at The Crown Estate, said: “We are pleased to have completed sale of this site which will deliver much needed new homes for Bingham, as identified through the council's own assessment. We look forward to seeing Barratt and David Wilson Homes start on-site.”

Chris Southgate, managing director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “As a five star housebuilder we are delighted to be bringing much-needed, quality properties to Bingham.”

John Reddington, managing director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “These new homes will be the first step in bringing forward a carefully designed plan for the area north of Bingham and we are thrilled to be starting work soon.”

Ben Glover, head of development at Savills Nottingham, said: “The completion of phase one is the first important step along the way to delivering this major scheme for Bingham. By selecting Barratt and David Wilson Homes as our preferred purchaser, we have secured a reputable plc capable of delivering new homes and services to Rushcliffe that also has the experience to complete the drainage works to deliver the entire scheme. We look forward to seeing the new homes come out of the ground and the wider site works commencing.”
